MBmix is committed to providing quality ready mixed concrete without environmental pollution. Considerable resources have been committed to the provision of comprehensive environmental protection measures. MBmix’s philosophy is to utilise the most effective equipment and techniques that reduce impact on the Environment and fully subscribes to the concept of sustainable waste management and the use of “Best Practicable Environmental Options”.
A state-of-the-art wastewater treatment/slurry recovery process is in operation that is in full compliance with the requirements of the local Municipality and UAE Federal Environmental Agency. It is the first application of this European technology in the UAE and makes it possible to recover the majority of all materials. The treatment facility is operated in conjunction with a waste management policy in strict accordance with ISO 14001.
Wastewater/Slurry Recovery System
A multi-stage process is used to segregate the phases of the waste stream and allow the appropriate treatment and storage of solids and water for re-use in the production process. The first stage of the process, a wet concrete reclaimer, is used to segregate solids and liquid, i.e. coarse and fine aggregates and wastewater (cement slurry).
Washout from transit mixer drums contents is also passed through the reclaimer and all drivers are instructed to return all washout products to the plant for reprocessing.
In all instances coarse and fine aggregates are removed using the reclaimer unit whilst slurry containing cement, fly ash, GGBS and some sand, all typically finer than #200 mesh, flows into the treatment unit.
The Reclaimer is a proprietary unit designed to accept waste concrete. It recovers coarse and fine aggregate that can be reused in fresh concrete production without a substantially degraded specification.
The Treatment Unit is also a proprietary design that allows the reprocessing of slurry water at a rate of upto 20 M3/hr. This high rate of treatment allows for the intermittent and peak time flow rates of wastewater produced.
MBmix does not utilise settlement ponds or areas of unprotected soil for the storage or disposal of wastewater.
There is minimal solid waste discharge from the plant. The only solid waste to be removed from the plant is solidified concrete that will be a result of occasional mechanical failures. The material is broken into manageable pieces and stored on site until a truckload is available. This is treated as conventional demolition waste and sent to a local Municipality approved landfill.
